Best Way To Reduce Stress And Get Faster Weight Loss?
Anxiety is one of the most common but yet often overlooked factors that can cause weight gain and/or prevent weight loss. In today's post I would like to talk about my best way to reduce stress to assure you'll get faster weight loss.
Stress can cause weight gain in two ways. Firstly, it can cause you to overeat (comfort foods), and secondly because stress could release a chemical in our bodies called cortisol. Cortisol is released from the adrenal glands during high stress situations to provide our bodies with extra energy mentally and physically (adrenaline). Too much and too frequent of cortisol being released can be stored as fat....especially around the midsection.
As far as overeating is concerned, it is very easy for us to resort to comfort foods....in particular, foods high in bad carbs (sugar). Now, this is kind of a good thing and a bad thing. Sugary foods release a chemical in the brain that calms nerves and provides a happy feeling. Unfortunately, most of those types of foods are bad for you and can lead to addiction, and of course, weight gain.
To prevent those things from happening, it is important to focus on keeping your stress levels down. The most popular method to reduce stress coincidentally is associated with faster weight loss....exercise!
Exercising frequently can help keep your stress levels down due to a positive chemical release from the brain, the feeling of "accomplishment", and releasing a lot of tension through your physical activity.
Some of the exercises I recommend specifically for helping you reduce stress are:
- Heavy bag boxing
- Shadow boxing
- Yoga
- Pilate's
- Stretching routines
- Sprinting
- Circuit training
So, if you want to get faster weight loss, not only pay attention to diet and exercise, also place a significant amount of your attention on reducing stress so that you won't run into roadblocks (excessive cortisol, overeating, etc.) during your weight loss journey!
