The Obama Family -- Setting A Good Example

The news has been about the president's first one-hundred days in office, and not only his, but the first one-hundred days of Michelle Obama and their children, too. The entire Obama family, in my opinion, can be held up as a wonderful example of positivity in action. Talk is one thing, but actions really do speak more loudly. So what are a few of the main things that can be learned by the example set by President Obama and his family?

Deliver On Your Promises

Politicians are notorious for NOT delivering on their promises, but from his 1st day in office, President Obama has been busily carrying out those things he promised the American people. Known for his excellent oratory skills, the man has shown the world that he is more than pretty talk.

The girls have their puppy, and Michelle Obama has begun the planting of the White House garden. I am betting some of that food will end up in soup kitchens to help our poor.

Think of how many promises this man has made that he's already enacted or that are in the works. Our words help define us as honest and trustworthy...or not. The number one thing most people want in a partner or a leader? Honesty.

Our reputations rest on the truths or the lies we tell, the promises we make or break.

Keep Your Priorities Straight

The Obamas have reached out to help so many in their new community, in our country, and in the entire world. But they have never lost sight of the core values that aid this generosity: God, their marriage, their children, extended family, and their friends, and the importance of education.

Without a well-defined core of values meaningful to us, we are of little use to ourselves or others.

Variety Is Still The Spice of Life

These, like so many, are some very busy people, but they balance all the busy-ness of work with many other things: family time, vacations, Friday night dates, hosting and attending social affairs, volunteer service, exercise, play, worship, and a host of other things.

This kind of variety adds both dimension and balance to ones life. A balanced life that feeds body, mind, and spirit is always a happier life. Being positive is hard to maintain without such balance.

Courage and Hope In The Face of Adversity

This family not only made history; they made it at a time when global crises seem to have become the norm. In spite of this, Barack and Michelle Obama maintain their calm. They encourage each other and the rest of us with honesty as to the severity of the worlds problems, but they always do so with solutions and hope at hand.

Helping and encouraging others adds a positive element to the lives of all concerned.

Not only has this family passed out a hearty dose of hope and encourgement to one another, but to America, and to the world. They do it not only with their words, but by example.

U-tip: Whenever possible, learn from a good example...and set one, too : )
