  • Zeynep Fadillioglu just became the first woman to design a mosque in Turkey. Though men and women generally worship separately (the women's space is often smaller and more crowded), Fadillioglu made sure to make the woman's worship space equal to that of the men's.

  • In 2010, San Francisco will be home to one of the largest solar photovoltaic arrays in California. The photovoltaic system would produce as much power as 1,000 households and would power local government buildings and schools.

  • The Leaning Statue of Russia: Volgograd's Motherland statue (commemorating the Battle of Stalingrad) is leaning by some eight inches. Many are afraid to go near the statue, which stands 300 feet high and weighs about 8,000 tons, for fear it will topple over. Experts say that if it leans just a few more centimeters, the 40-year-old statue will likely fall.
